Move aside Tiger Mom and forget Helicopter Parenting. Karmic Kids is the view from the other side of the fence – of laid back parenting, of giving in to food jags, of making unstructured play time mandatory and of not bursting a blood vessel when your child’s grades are not something you might want to discuss in public.

A roller coaster ride of love, laughter, and a few tears Kiran Manral takes you through the beautiful chaos of the early years of parenthood. Written in a gently humorous style, this home grown, hit-the-ground-running account of the chaos of day-to-day parenting is peppered with anecdotes, reminiscences, a little practical advice and is a non-preachy, hilarious take on raising a spirited child while retaining one’s good spirits through it all.

A former journalist with the The Asian Age and The Times Of India, Kiran's book started out as a blog based on anecdotes about raising her son, affectionately called 'The Brat', right from his birth till he turned 10. Kiran turned the blog into her first non-fiction book.

Those who have read kiran's previous fiction work will recognize and enjoy her easy language and ability to find humour even in the darkest situations.

In karmic kids that means accepting that her obsession with Goggling everything doesn't always have the best results and allowing her son to wear his Superman costume to the darkest  so he feels a little braver. Kiran takes us through the years chronicling not just her son's milestones but also her own as a mother. As an aside, she also includes inputs by experts on a range of issues- from preparing for the first day at school to dealing with learning disorders and temper tantrums.

I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.
